First Sky-worthy car.....could be useful in Manila....

"US company Terrafugia has put on display a prototype car that is licensed to fly as well as drive, at the New York International Auto Show".

Possibly a way to get there too....

I can see a lot of the wealthier IOM folk buying these......especially when the ferry tickets are so high and the ferry journeys are so long.....and great for doctors in the Highlands and Island for example or even just for emergency purposes like the police.

I think it's going to be a bit of a flop to be honest. You'll need a Pilots License to operate one. I hold a Pilots License, and on one of the pilots forum I posted there was a lot of discussion by those who could afford it, suggesting that they would be scared to hell to park it anyway and would still need to find a suitable strip to take off and land. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Yes. The ferrari dude that my boss rents our office from also has his own plane. He often flys from here to some of the scottiish islands. Maybe it would suite him......

It kind of brings us a step nearer to scenes in movies like Blade Runner and Star Wars.....

Henry Smolinski was a Northrop-trained engineer who left his job to start Advanced Vehicle Engineers, a company focused on bringing a flying car to market.

Smolinski was set to begin production for the retail market the next year, but on Sept. 11, 1973, he went on a test flight with pilot Harold Blake and was killed, along with Blake, when a wing strut detached from the car.

Or how about this as an alternative....

"Gary helped develop the suit which will be used for the flight - making it a first of its kind from a technical point of view. Typically these suits are designed to fly as fast as possible but Gary has engineered a suit which will enable him to fly at slightly slower speeds, allowing him to land without a parachute."
