Our 19-year age gap was only an issue to other people

"Samantha Booth was 21 and working behind a bar at her local pub in Glasgow, when Martin, a man nineteen years her senior, walked into her life."

"Martin, a truck driver, now 54, was a regular in the pub Samantha had begun working in after moving home following a trip to America, and the pair were introduced by her brother".

    Common story, age difference.
Doesn't bother either of us one little bit.
It did seem to bother a couple of my friends initially. But that was their problem not mine.
I think the only time age difference ever came to my mind was when we first met, and I did have a few fleeting moments thinking my chances might not the best.
Soon forgot those, the chemistry was there almost immediately.
I think psychological age and outlook much more important than physical ages or how we look.

    Just sharing my opinion.

Only the jealous and small-minded see it as a problem.

There are far more important things in life for people to be concerning themselves about.

As the lady in the report says 'people are people'.

If such relationships are happy and fulfilling for both partners, then it has sod all to do with any other busybodies....whose own relationships with their contemporaries may have only lasted a few short miserable years anyway.

I agree with you two chaps. It did bother me at first but looking back I really have had no issues at all, anyway.

There is a gap betweem my wife and I, but I really don't care and nor does she, although she ribs me about it sometimes .
If others have a problem then it is tough. I think a compatability is far more important and that we love eachother. I think it comes down to jealousy and lack of sight from the 'haters'. I think this argument comes into the same category as those who think we have 'Thai brides' idiots

Aye ... *Rupert Murdoch's Chinese wife was probably "press"-ganged into the public eye. But ... given the certainty of his limited lifespan - not to mention his vast wealth - she has decided to and *"bear" it!

That's like my first [late] wife and I. She was 5 years older than me ... but - being petite & dainty - looked younger.

    Red face

Hummm... Me and my partner got 20 years difference... And it never bother us at all... Not even other people's opinion about our age gap... I think the worst opinion toward us is not our age gap but our status...(bcoz we are both separated) its more on between us, how we treat each other... He been patient with me and very supportive... I wouldn't trade my relationship with him with a younger guy who have no sense of responsibility and backbones.

So as long as you know what you feel towards each other I guess nothing really matter outside your reationship
I know it seems hard sometimes, but remember one thing, through every dark night, there's a bright day after that. So no matter how hard it gets, keep your chest out, keep your head up and handle it...

Yes, this is something I have often heard, especially with SE asian ladies saying why they want an older man who will be a real man and look after her.

Age gap? Meh, you can be sure she loves you for you (and as I've said elsewhere, you can tell deep down if something is right or not)

What matters is that both partners go into it with eyes open, know the advantages and disadvantages, and if the age gap is really big, that at some point, one of them will feel older.
Get over that, and it's all go It's no different from a couple the same age. Yes there will be more shared experiences and outlooks, but there will be other problems, there always is in every relationship.

You always have your ups and downs, but if you feel right together - it is absolutely no-one else's damned business, and they're probably only jealous anyway

If the new couple are attracted to each other, than that’s the first important step, none of anyone else’s business

If it’s a Brit man and a younger beautiful Filipina then it’s his ex wife who might be most jealous

Talking about age gap, I was bit annoyed yesterday when we went to waitrose to shop for some bits, the old lady cashier was looking at me insanely then she looked at my husband, I don't know what's her problem so I just ignored it, our age difference is 20 so that might freaked her out But I don't care really as we've been together for nearly 5 years, I just have to get used to these people who can't accept the fact that age really doesn't matter.

If I was there I would have to say something...like " yes, am I a lucky guy".

    NICE ONE!
One of my best Mates was on holiday years ago in the Canary Islands, just divorced from his ex gold digger of a wife. Having a quiet beer at the bar, asked for a light for his smoke off a cute 17 year old German girl. Got chatting. 10 years on they are married, have a lovely kid and a business together, she is 27 and my Mate 59! Happy as Larry. Good on 'em!!

Ohh darn it you beat me my gilr is 25 years younger and honestly we have the same outlook and fun attitiude etc so yeah age is noting we both love each other and thats all that matters.
I guess lot of people get jealous or just stereotyped by what society has conditioned them to believe, but we know better!
