    Abu Qatada arrested

Radical cleric Abu Qatada has been arrested ahead of fresh deportation proceedings, the Home Office has said.

Home Secretary Theresa May will update MPs on his case on Tuesday afternoon, while he appears before the Special Immigration Appeals Commission.

I hope this grub is soon hooded and shackled in the back of a C130 en route to Jordan which then gets diverted to the USA due to technical problems.

They were going on about him on Newsnight...and all the excuses as to why the British govt. have to bow down to ECHR.

I had to put the TV off before I kicked it through the front window.

I saw some limpwristed legally aid salaried Immigration Barrister earlier saying it was because we'd joined it we had to abide by its rulings. What a contrast with the backbone shown French and Wops when dealing with these scum

Abu Qatada deportation appeal lodged with European court

Radical cleric Abu Qatada cannot be deported from Britain yet, the European Court of Human Rights has said, after an appeal was lodged.

Yep, seems like we're still the only idiots taking any notice of the rules...same as with the EU ones.

Not true Andy the fight (albeit with a lack of resolve and determination) to get shot of this germ has been going on for some 10 years hamstrung by Brit and Euro court proceedings etc. May is geting closer to a result than 8 years worth of not fit for purpose Labour Home Secretaries

Apparently this piece of is on benefits which includes £1900 a month in rent. The surveilance operation is costing the Tax Payer £100,000 a week and I assume his legal aid bill at this stage runs into millions.I hope and pray Theresa May has got her dates right because this has just gone beyond a joke.

He returned to Jordan, but in September 1993 he fled with his wife and five children to the UK, using a forged UAE passport. He requested asylum on grounds of religious persecution [11] and this was granted in June 1994.

I think tories were in power then, he should have been deported for having a fake passport

    Theresa May:

She should face-up to the ECHR with the same degree of determination she's hell-bent on applying to her radical reforms of the Immigration System ... and get rid of those dangerous fanatics who ought not to be allowed here in the first place.

    Well said Charles Walker MP

And Tory MP Charles Walker said Mrs May should defy the ECHR altogether and deport Qatada and other terrorists as soon as possible.

Personally I think she's made a boo boo. She made her statement to early in the House of Commons. Having read several articles I've got a feeling they will allow his appeal. I hope I'm wrong but I fear not. The one good thing to her credit is that she appears to have secured agreement that he will get a fresh trial in Jordan. So I think he will be going but not for a while, forcing the British Taxpayer to fork out another million or two to keep him and his family, pay his legal fees etc etc.
