    Jewellers in Manila

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced one in minila?
    Is jewellery more expensive there?
Thinking about getting the wedding rings there so at least we can both see them and try them on.
Thought it might be cheaper in the uk but guess the wedding ring should really be chosen by the bride and although she says she is a 4 3/4 i would rather she tried it on and picked it herself

Been there. My daughter did her A level in Art and for her Art project she looked at Birmingham's jewelry quarter and Charles Rennie Mackintosh with trips to both Birmingham and Glasgow.

It was entirely my wife's choice. I felt there was no point buying here as the chances are we would have got the sizes wrong....in fact almost certainly as my wife's fingers are soooooooooooo small. And she hadnt any idea of her size....and it no doubt would have been in an American size anyway, just to add to the confusion.

I would...but there are some instances where it isn't so practicable to do so....

I sent pictures of wedding rings to my wife from here and she chose which one. Had them made to size here and they fitted perfect.

One point to watch with the many excellent Chinese jewellers (whether in Manila, Hong Kong or elsewhere) is that Chinese people often prefer to buy ".999" gold i.e. pure gold - what we in England would call "24 carat" gold, and they dislike the 18 carat (18 parts gold, alloyed with 6 parts something else) that we like in Britain.

What this means in practice is that a ring bought from a Chinese jeweller is likely to be ".999", so it will be about 25% more expensive and it will be soft and will wear in use. Very nice, though, and definitely worth more should it need to be sold later.

A solution is to buy .999 gold rings for the wedding and cheap 9 carat rings for everyday use.
