Isle of Man TT 26th May - 8th June

    http://www.iomtt.com/TT-2012.aspx

Trailer for Closer to The Edge

"By vividly recounting the TT's legendary rivalries and the Isle of Man's unique road racing history, this 3D feature documentary will discover why modern TT riders still risk their lives to win the world's most dangerous race. The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy is the greatest motorcycle road race in the world, the ultimate challenge for rider and machine. It has always called for a commitment far beyond any other racing event, and many have made the ultimate sacrifice in their quest for victory. A story about freedom of choice, the strength of human spirit and the will to win. It's also an examination of what motivates those rare few, this elite band of brothers who risk everything to win. The vision of top commercials director Richard de Aragues, this promises to be one of the most thrilling films of 2011"

I haven't been yet as I didn't get a chance last year. Too busy getting married etc. Its dam hard to avoid it here as it takes over the whole island. The numbers here swell from 80000 by 20000 when the TT is on...

My best friend has been going nearly every year since the 70s and is always urging me to go with him, but of course I've been back and forwards overseas for a lot of that time.

I have felt very uncomfortable about road bikes ever since my late Fiancee was killed on one, but racing is different and I still enjoy watching it.

Thats a good question. To be honest it is isnt cheap to either get here or live here. It's really a country existence and quite quiet (except during TT week ). Personally, I wish it wasn't so far from the mainland as it is such a pain getting away, but that is also an advantage along with the fact that it has its own laws etc as it tends to keep the scallys away. If you are into old steam engines, boating, fishing biking and an outdoor life then it is great. There are a number of nice beaches and the whole island is covered in palm trees but it isn't as warm during the summer months as you might think...Mrs Lastlid finds it freezing....

Just been up to take a squint of them practicing this evening. First time for me. Took the wife. Quite impressive really. The actual races start next week so might go up and watch then too.

The island really has been invaded by motorbike enthusiasts mainly from the UK, France and Germany.

Watched the practice for free. But during race week the tickets are cheap to allcomers, from what I gather. Just where we were today it was £3.00 to sit on the grass embankment....
