Cultural Differences Between the UK and the Philippines

In the UK we say turn on and off the lights, in the Philippines they say open and close the lights.

I corrected my mahal on this one day by trying to literally open the light socket. She asked what I was doing and I said 'I'm trying to open the light, like you said'. Now it is 'please turn on the light po'
