Do I need to register a Filipino wedding in the UK?

    Hi.

I have just come back from Philippines where I have married my mahal.

I am now starting to think about the visa process so she can come here to stay. She seems to think that we need to register our marriage here so that the UK authorities recognise the marriage. After searching, I can't find anything about this. Does anybody know if this is correct? Maybe she is just getting confused.

I just wanted to check before we start the application.

If I get married abroad will my marriage be legal in the UK?
You should consult a lawyer to check as sometimes marriages conducted in other countries aren’t recognised in the UK.

Can I get a British marriage certificate if I marry abroad?
No, you will get a certificate of marriage from the country you marry in.

Can I register an overseas marriage in the UK when I return?
No, but you can have your marriage documents deposited with the General Register Office (GRO).

This isn’t compulsory, but it means your marriage certificate is kept by the GRO as an official record and you will be able to easily get copies of it in the future.

We can deposit marriage documents for you.

Please note: you’ll need to get your documents translated if they’re not in English.

but if the marriage is legal and recognized in the country you got married in, it should be recognised in the Uk, a legal marriage in the Phils will be recognized here. and no you dont need to do anything here,

Filipino wedding-What do i do next?

    Hi,

I got married to a really lovely Filipino lady in the Philippines.

I am now back in the uk,after spending several months there.

I plan to bring her to live here in the uk.

But im a bit confused by all the paperwork that i need to use in the application.

Be wonderful if somebody could give me some advice on this matter.

Be good to chat to somebody who has been through the process.

    Be very grateful

    Thanks

    David
