I wasn't poo pooing the work done at Universities and I agree that some fantastic R & D projects and creative innovations come out of them.
I just have a feeling that for road vehicles someone is going to come up with something rather different (and more compact) though.
I actually thought there might be room for development at the budget end of the car market, in the Philippines. The new tricycle...sort of thing. Maybe.
