    G4S cannot fulfil £300m contract.

Why not cancel the contract save £300million and let the armed forces take care of all the security. People would feel a lot safer with highly trained professionals taking care of them rather than low paid un motivated immigrants who couldn't tell a terrorist from a programme seller.

Marco. What was the outcome of the tube driver's dispute on overtime during the games? Was it settled in the end?

    Agree.
They could keep an eye on the 'security' people too.

I see from the news tonight that 3,000 troops are being drafted in.

I'm betting on there being a terrorist attack...sorry to say.

We've already got a whole population of potential terrorists in the country, welcomed here by idiot governments.

There is a ballot ongoing at the moment but it's for action short of a strike. They have done away with framework agreements for the Olympics and have introduced some 9hr 30 min shift at the weekends. The problem is they originally accepted to allocate the duties to volunteers but then they added if there is not enough volunteers they would force drivers to work the shifts.
The problem for me is that if you have 4 SPADS (signals passed at danger) in a 2 year period you lose your job on the trains and they have allowed no let up in this for the Olympic period. So if a driver is already on say 2 spads he doesn't really want to be forced to do longer shifts.
Fortunately at my depot we have more than enough volunteers to do the longer shifts because they do carry an attractive premium.
So there is no danger of a strike it's just a case of giving some drivers protection if they want to stay within current parameters.

I see what you mean. And of course you are more likely to have a SPAD if you are tired...they should know that.

It's amazing how safety has been compromised to deliver the service they want. 6 months ago if I selected and used reverse on my train whilst on the running line I would have found myself at the Job centre. Now if I overshoot a platform they want me to stick it in reverse and pull into the platform. Its all about getting the sevice running as quickly as possible if there is a minor hiccup.
They have changed so many safety rules now that it requires something to go wrong dramatically before they are taken to task by the authorities.
So many things that if you had done 12 months ago would have got you the sack or dipped have now been given the ok.
The thing is I think that so many of the top brass at TFL are chasing gongs for delivering a trouble free service during the Olympics that they have compromised safety.
    Only time will tell.

G4S - Former Home Secretary, Defence Minister & Health Minister John Reid ( Lord Reid of Cardowan) is a Director - you couldn't come up with a more inept outfit

An absolute disgrace , good job the army manpower cuts haven't happened yet (currently 102000 to be slashed to 82000). The army is stretched to the limit and by diverting 3500 men to this obscene waste of taxpayers money I'm sure will extend deployments at the front line thus costing some poor soldiers their lives

This grinning idiot earns £1.2 million a year running G4S. He's not sure if the muppets they have recruited for Olympic duties can speak English

This is becoming a farce. I can well believe that loads of them will struggle with English. What really me off about this is that unemployment is rising monthly. These games have been paid for out of our money through taxes and lottery money. These jobs should have gone to 10,000 people who are currently registered unemployed and not a load of Nigerians working in several different names and signing on aswell. The only thing that has been offered out locally is for volunteers to help direct people at key locations for which you will receive a pink HiVi and all in the way of wages.
By the way some of us are old enough to remember when G4S had another name and won a contract for the transportation of prisoners. They that up aswell.
Personally I'd cancel the contract get 10,000 troops to cover the security and give all the soldiers a nice big bonus at the end of it.

Not arguing with you Dedworth, but I just heard on the news that it's now up to 13000UK military with 10000 from G4S. Despite 6000 not being trained to acceptable levels.

Do we actually have enough military personal to do it? (23000)

They said G4S is actually running about half a dozen prisons already

    Clowns

I agree that there are plenty of good honest British citizens, many of whom have been long-term unemployed purely because of age discrimination who could have done a fine job on the security staff.

Where were these positions advertised ?

Was enough effort (if any ) made to make the jobs available to those who may have been interested ?
