    Calling home from UK landline

    Hi.

I see Win2Win's post about calling cards, but has anyone used this kind of service?

    http://www.skinttariffs.com/cheap-in...ilippines.html

    Any other suggestions appreciated.

(Yes, we have Skype but it is not always convenient).

    Thanks.

I'd be wary of these you'll be paying hefty charges for dialling the 0871 number see here

When my wifes not using calling cards she uses www.18185.co.uk

Even though calling cards seem to be good, you still incurr the charge per minute on your phone call at whatever rate that is. Always appears to me to be false economy really. I don't use them, I just use VOI servivces like Viber from my data useage on my moblie. But if you are at home and your phone connects to your wifi, it is a free call and no data off your mobile useage.

We use a calling card called "white" and you buy this card @ £10 a go which lasts for one month and gives you approx 130 minutes even to a cell phone in Phil. The access code is eother 0800 (free from a landline) or an 0207 number which is free from my mobile so its less than £0.08 a minute with no connection charge. I dont know if this is the best value card but it lasts us for a month so we have no cause for complaint.

We used these years ago and as others have said they do appear at first to be good value.
We discovered that wasn't really the case.

But the biggest down-side for us was that for those times we really needed to get a line we found the access numbers either unavailable or busy.

There are plenty of good alternatives around. My wife has been using Lebara for a number of years now. May not be the cheapest all the time, but certainly the cheapest at many times and especially when they have a promo.
Besides which my wife has never had any issues with the network.

    Hi,

As someone else has already stated, the calling cards are never the good value they appear to be. I used Talk Home cards previously but was lucky to get 30 minutes actual talk time to Mindanao instead of the advertised 500!

I use this link now when not Skyping: callchecker . moneysavingexpert . com / intcallchecker which offers calls marginally cheaper than the link you quoted and much better value than any calling card I know. I'll be back there in September and will only have to talk across the room to my babe. Yippee! bring it on!!!!

We use foocall to call the PI using our landline here. 15 pence per minute if I am not mistaken.

For Text we use FishText. Here are the links.

When my wife was living In Singapore I used the" white calling card" which provided me with 600+ minutes for £10 and that was to her cell phone dialling Phil ,there are no hidden charges, the connection is free and the access code is either 0800 (free) from a landline or 0207 which may also be free depending on your bundle so this appears to be cheaper than the other connections mentioned in this thread.

    Hi Malchard,

Can you tell me how to use this "white card"? Where can I buy it?
    Thanks.

    http://www.thephonecardsite.com.

Go into the above mentioned website and from the drop down menu select best rate finder where u will find "white twin pack" and the applicable rates. As previously mentioned, there is no connection charge and from the 0207 access number its 7.6p a minute and as I have free calls to that number I think its a reasonable bargain.

A Lebara or Lyca mobile sim card is probably best. It used to be only 10p a minute to Philippines moblies, i think its now 12p. Just buy credit (load) when you need to. The free calls apps are good but the people recieving the call also needs them on their phone, and most people in Philippines do not have smart phones

If you want to use a so-called call-through telecom for your international call, then please read on here:

    Link Removed

Here's a whole bunch of providers. Sometimes the lines broke, but there are plenty of alternatives.
