For 8 hours the snaring stranger had held the terrified son hostage, pressing an ice pick to his neck.
The mother of the hostage calmly confronted the captor with a crucifix.
Nine year old Mark Jason Pineda was taken to hospital with two nicks in his neck but was otherwise unharmed.
His captor, Reimer Parparan was arrested..police said he may have suffered a mental breakdown.
