    Keeping flies out

We seem to get quite a few flies in the house during the summer when we leave the back door open to get a bit of air through the house. This obviously is getting on our nerves. So does anyone have any methods / ideas for keeping flies out of the house?

Bead curtain works well for me; use two to get double row of bead strings

Fly screens on windows pretty essential.

We have bead and string curtains and screens on both doors. Invest in one of those electric tennis rackets and fry them... keeps you fit too.

Cheers all, after to talking to the wife and a bit of internet looking I've found string curtains which look like the new version of beaded curtain. Ordered some from John Lewis, strange how the wife seemed to pick the most expensive ones!

When we lived in Dumaguete, the trick was never leave any food about and make sure after a meal you wash and dry all pots and pans. This worked for us and it was a rare thing to see flies ants or cockroaches.

I detest flies in the house.

I never had flies in the house in the Phils...or here.

Just use proper flyscreen doors, make sure people open and close them quickly and then keep them properly closed.

Check the integrity of the ones on the windows too, because they also keep the mosquitoes out.

I dont mind the fies its those mozzies that get me. I hate them. I have tried all the sprays they dont work. Any ideas chaps? I was looking to get one of those ultra-violate lights. I dont know if they would work though.

I think the ultra-violet would work...always meant to get one myself.

Don't forget mozzies tend to fly low though, so don't put it too high up.

I always sleep under a mozzie net, it fits right over our king size bed great so I get a good nights sleep. Bygon is a good spray to use, seems very effective.

We have one of those UV light things you see in kitchens etc out in the phils and they do seem to work. As Graham says screens over windows as well as screen doors is a big help out there as well. Obviously you need to cover food etc or at least keep it in the fridge out there as well otherwise you'd have an infestation of alsorts of creppy crawlies!!

I think we get flies in the UK as the nieghbour has two dogs which are kept outside so when we have our conservatory door open they come in from his garden.

Had a few bevvies with a Yank that works in Kuwait.. He said the best way to get rid of flies is put a hot ember in a spoon of coffee and let it smoulder..
I went to a BBQ about 2 months after and the flies were driving me nuts..I did the coffee thing (plus stuck a couple of spoonfuls on the BBQ) and viola! No more flies.
