    Lol yes Ian, in tagalog if I refer to someone who is she/he I need to indicate the name if it is a feminine or masculine or a thing, for example;

    Siya ay mabait- (he-she is kind)

    So, Siya is not indicated here if feminine or masculine but look at this another example;

    Ang kapatid ko na lalake ay mas matanda sa akin, siya ay mabait na kapatid. (My brother is older than me, he is a kind brother (translated literally).

    Siya here is understood as a masculine he refers to brother kapatid ko na lalake

    Ang kapatid ko na babae ay mas matanda sa akin, siya ay mabait na kapatid. (My sister is older than me, she is a kind sister)

    Siya here is understood as a feminine she refers to sister kapatid ko na babae.

    So in verbal or written conversation
    you can use it feminine or masculine once you understand if the subject is feminine or masculine.
