We are trying to keep a pile of letters / documents that prove we share the same address. So far we have tenancy agreement, joint bank account, joint electricity bill, any mail from the authorities eg Tax Office, Council, GP, hospital etc etc and just plonking them in a box in readiness.

We have also bought the Life in the UK Test books for her to start looking at towards the beginning of her 2nd year here.

One thing, Reema, I think the requirements for the Isle of Man are a little (not a lot) different to the mainland UK. Also the Life in the UK test includes about 5 questions specifically on the IOM (on Tynwald and stuff like that).

I had a chat with one of the Immigration guys in Douglas and he was confirming what Terpe had said about the Life in the UK Test being a little bit different.

No problem. We are not so far ahead of you now.

We are just waiting till about Christmas, after everything has settled down and with about 10 months to go for us, and then look more thoroughly into it. I am hoping that the Isle of Man keep their ILR prices down...

Items of correspondence or other documentary evidence from sources of the kind
listed below would be acceptable. These should be divided fairly equally between
each of the two years, and be addressed jointly in both your names wherever possible.
If you do not have any or enough in your joint names, items addressed to each of you
individually may be acceptable, provided they show the same address and you provide
roughly the same number of items in each of your names.
The items of evidence should be from at least 5 different official sources.

Ideally, a total of 20 items of evidence should be provided.

If you are not able to do that, please provide at least 10
    items.

    Evidence

    telephone bills or statements
     gas bills or statements
     electricity bills or statements
 water rates bills or statements
 council tax bills or statements
     mortgage statements or agreement
 banks or building society statements/passbooks
     tenancy agreements
 insurance policies/certificates or other correspondence
     loan agreements
     AA,RAC or similar membership
 membership of sports or social clubs
 membership of a religious organisation
 correspondence from government departments or agencies (eg HM Revenue and Customs,
Income Tax, DHSS, DTI Work Permits) including evidence that you have declared your relationship
    to the appropriate government bodies.
 correspondence from GP or local health authority (e.g. NHS card, correspondence about antenatal and port-natal treatment, letter confirming dates of visits to the home address by a midwife,
letter confirming registration with a dentist, etc – providing these documents show your home
address and the date first registered)

    Got it. Looks like £991

    http://www.gov.im/lib/docs/cso/immig...etmmay2012.pdf

    The fee
If you are a sole applicant on form SET(M) and no dependants are applying
with you, there is a fee of £991
If one or more dependants are applying with you, the fee increases by £496
for each dependant as shown in the table below.
    Number of applicants:
    Yourself and 1 dependant: £1487
    Yourself and 2 dependants: £1983
    Yourself and 3 dependants: £2479
Yourself and more than 3 dependants:
Add £496 to the amount above for each additional dependant
You may include children under the age of 18 if they are applying as your
dependants. But they must pay the specified fee if they apply separately.
Children aged 18 or over may not be included. They must apply individually
and pay the specified fee in each case.
You must pay by one of the following methods:
Cheque – made payable to ‘Isle of Man Government’
Postal Order – made payable to Isle of Man Government
    Banker’s Draft
    Debit Card
Cash (only ‘in person’ applications at the Immigration Office)

Suggestion to the Mods. How about an IOM Sticky of some kind as things can be slightly different after the initial settlement visa and could cause confusion to those on the UK mainland......

    Sounds OK lastlid.

Admin can make a thread 'sticky'. But the members need to produce the thread/postings/information.
Could be a worthwhile project for you.

Why not give it a go?

Seems to be the same price as the UK. But cant see an option for same day processing. Hopefully they will process ILR a bit quicker here.....

They processed my wife's ILR in a week Lastlid as the IOM can make it's own decision about the ILR without any need to go to the UK cap in hand!

Annoyingly though, the IOM doesn't stick an actual ILR visa in the passport though. They just stick a stamp in, then provide you with 2 different letters you need to carry with your passport. Those letters are to be shown to immigration when returning to the UK to explain that the ILR stamp in the passport is genuine! Be interesting to see how that works for my wife when we return from the Far East next April!

Sounds good. 991 quid, same as UK mainland postal service, but only takes a week. Good news indeed.

Heres how I arranged my documents (note: no staples / no paperclips..separate the originals and photocopies of each)

Scanned copies of all the passports
    Marriage certificate
3 months bank statements (both husband and I)
    Payslips (both husband and I)
    P60 (both husband and I)
KOL notification letter (Life in the UK TEST)
Cohabitation letters both husband and I for 2years (note: we just submitted from 3 different sources)

*re life in the uk test :
after being in the UK for 6months and after doing the appropriate research , I felt confident enough to take the Life in the UK test ...which I did take and passed
