Where to live around Manila please

As per a previous post I’ve decided to go to the Philippines now and not Thailand to meet my GF again. visa applications sent and should be flying out to Manila on the 1st September.
Will be looking at renting an apartment or house but on arrival we will be staying in a hotel for a few days.

My question is what areas of/or around manila would anyone recommend?

I understand as does my GF that certain areas should be avoided as in any large city.

But suggestion on where we should be looking to rent or areas to stay would be most welcomed.

    Thanks in advance

You need to decide what you want, you can either be in the middle of the city or outside the city for a little bit more relaxed and rural life.
Getting around Manila is a bit of a pain, but if you live near the MRT/LRT lines it makes life a million times easier as that shuttles you past all the traffic to most places that you need to go.

We lived in Marikina which is named the cleanest place in Manila, and is just on the outskirts of the city so easy to get to all the nightlife and fun, with some well priced apartments available.

Have a look at google maps, look on www.sulit.com.ph for apartments and try to choose what kind of lifestyle you want.

I have an expat friend who recently transferred from Makati to Pacific Plaza Towers in the Fort. Lovely place with great views over the golf club to Makati and to Laguna Lake. There are car parking spaces included but if not needed the rent is reduced. Good security and and no noisy polluting jeepneys plying around outside,
As far as your visa extension is concerned you can do it easily at the main office in Intramuros or in Cebu or at many other BI locations throughout the country

    Manila or Cebu!! Either.

If I had to choose then it would be Manila for me..
I live about 2 hours from Cebu on an entirely different island and try to avoid the place like the plague...Hate it there.
    Horses for courses I guess.

Cebu has the whole expat scene, if you like that. Manila is better connected, cheaper and more diverse. The weather in the South, particularly Cebu is better overall.

If you want to stay in Manila, there's a place near embassy Global City. Wonderful place, it's near from all commercial establishment. Have a friends there usually they have condo for rent in that place.

When we arrive manila were probably stay in a hotel a few nights then were be looking for a small apartment. Budget on the low side, this is savings I’m burning into . looking for a 1 bedroom apartment , ideally with the bedroom separate as we have a baby and it would be nice to put her to bed so to speak then join her later. She’s only very young.
While im at it can anyone recommend a reasonable nice cheap hotel that’s worth staying at?

your gf is from Valencia it's almost near from our place in province (Ormoc City).
Hope you could find the best and affordable place to stay. We can suggest but it's up to you to decide and to your gf too. Quezon City is ok to live in there's so many places here you could choose to stay.

    Nashlash..
The place I recommended is fully booked till November and the rent is as low as 333 per day for a fully furnished one bed unit depending on length of stay etc. more pics here http://www.stanleyhouse.co.nr/
You need to be a bit careful of what area you choose to stay in if you have a child with you given the fact you and your girl have never actually been to Manila or surrounding areas before..
Its hard for us to give any other suggestions without you telling us your purpose for staying and places that you need to be close to etc etc..Be wary of taxi drivers and make sure they turn on meter before the car moves. Be careful of anyone that seems over helpful and smiles to much..It usually means they want to overcharge you for something.
    Take care there ya hear!!
    Cheers,
    Fred.

Just a thought... A great place to stay in Manila if you have kids would be an apartment/condo for rent inside the confines of Mall of Asia.. I thoroughly recommend the area and well worth paying a bit more for IMO. Loads for the kids to do too..

I have a lot of experience with real estate in the Philippines and 80% of my relatives are based abroad. If you want to live near business districts and more urban areas, Makati City, Ortigas Quezon City, and Bonifacio Global City are great areas. Message me here if you need any help or want a specific location.

Hi there! Saw your post. If ever you'd want to purchase a property for long term stay, just contact me so we can explore your options. Makati Area and Bonifacio Global City is near all commercial establishments but quite pricey. So you can opt for areas close but not specifically in those areas.
