    verbally abusive

what do you class as verbally abusive, just asking this as i have receivced a letter back from the ambulance service about not sending a ambulance for my grandson, the letter explains all that happened that night, but it does leave out some important things, we was told nothing avalible in your area, but the letter states that 1 would have been there in 7 minutes thats at 20.48pm, but here is where the verbally abusive comes into it, i told the person on the end of the phone, you are joking you have no ambulance in this area of the city , what a joke you are dont bother i will use my car, which they have written abvout using my car, remember this is a call where they told my daughter whos very upset theres no ambulance, my grandson screaming and we all are covered in blood, i may have raised my voice , but i would not call that verbally abuse, just makes me wonder, what would have been the right words to use, anyway its all sorted everyones fine, but next time if this happens again i will say they are uncontious, wrong maybe but if thats the only way to get some help urgent

You know they complain about anything these days in order it goes on record the terrible things they have to put up with

Some people will interpret "verbally abusive" in different ways. Or missinterperate the expression, but it doesn't seem like you crossed the line. Did you add a few swear words in there Steve? That alters things a little.

I presume it was recorded so not just your word against theirs.

Steve, if there was no swearing, threats or personal abuse (I think you know what I mean there, like saying something like 'you stupid ******' etc) I would agree with lastlid that imo you did not cross that line into 'verbal abuse'.

I think under the circumstances and stress you found yourself in you did not revert to verbal abuse at all.

That's my take on it anyway.

The real question is this, did they say 7 minutes or did they say nothing available ?
Seems that their records may be in question.
Was this a recorded call Steve? or from written notes?

In our area such calls are actually recorded and can be made available within certain timeframes.

i always thought all 999 calls are recorded, anyway they say it was called at 20.38pm and coded as a green 2 call, may be serious but not life threatening and a ambulance has a target of 30 mins to get there, so as the time went 20.38pm call made fallen out of bed, head injury, 20.41pm call was past to nurse triage green 2 ring-back. 20.48pm double crewed ambulance was mobile to scene, expected time was 7 minutes, having come clear on scene of another emergency call,20.48pm nurse on phone noted male on phone became verbally abusive and did not wish the ambulance help and was making there own way in car,20.51pm ambulance stood down, the letter goes on to say unfortunately we did not have the resources immediately available to respond to your call due to demand, it was only when they told my daughter there is none available thats when i took the phone of her, which was 20.48, i am not taking this any further all is well, it was just at the time, just hope that know one is alone and have to make that call

I understand your point Steve but its only going to get worse with these in power. More cutbacks on the way. Either that or they will privatise the ambulance service.

We get so many cold calls at work. I had some guy trying to sell me stocks and shares a couple of weeks ago, I kept him going for ages, he was calling from Singapore too. I gave him my name as Dixie Normas. After about 10 minutes winding him up, pretending to be a rich gullible investor I hung up. He rang up later and one of my colleagues picked up the phone to this guy asking to talk to 'dicks enormous' .... we all rolled round on the floor

Yes, you can have fun with them...depends whether they're interrupting something important (like cooking my tea!) or not.

Lately I've been getting loads of texts and calls about claiming back payment protection money that I'm supposedly owed.

Daft thing is...they don't even know my name when I ask them....idiots.

Tbh ... Steve ... who could blame you for "losing your cool" the other week; I remember you telling us about the incident, and feel you were well within your rights in getting annoyed. These so-called Public Services CAN be a bit sloppy at times - and certainly appear to have been in this particular instance. God knows ...I've crossed swords with a few of them (usually belligerent bus drivers) myself, on occasion.

... "Dixie Normas!" Nice one, Steve ... I like it! One thing I WILL say for cold callers, though - and that is: They sure must have bloody good eyesight ... the way they're able to read through the small print in directories in order to get peoples' names, beats me!

Another good one is Mike Hunt. More for the female cold callers.
