    our future plans in bohol

the last few months i have been thinking hard about our future plans to live in bohol, lots of things to sort out, do we buy , do we rent the list goes on, but its the day to day things i have been looking at, yes i want a garden but also i am thinking about learning to sail, i have no idea at all but i live so close to some sailing clubs, windsurfing clubs and so on, its just a thought at this moment but it all goes towards a nice steady living in the future, a 2 day beginers course starts at £164, not cheap but what is these days

    Sounds great !

I'm a reasonably proficient dinghy sailor and used to own one. You ought to be able to get a RYA Level 1 and 2 Dinghy course cheaper than that - have a shop around and haggle with them

    Hi Steve
Its great to hear other expats deciding to leave here in Phil......It can be a great life style if you know what you are getting your wife and family into.

If you know and have visited the area in Bohol many times I would buy or build a property of your own in the area of your choice. I never have liked the idea of renting putting my hard earn't money in somebody else's pocket to have a roof over my head. That said you would of had to make up your mind that Phil or Bohol really is the place for you and your family if you decide to build or buy.

Not knowing exactly where in Bohol your are planning to live but if you can't find all your daily wants and needs in Tagbilaran you are so close to Cebu anyway.

Panglao island is getting quite expensive and touristy......on a clear day we can see Panglao from Dumaguete City.

Regards sailing there is quite a few bigger yatchs here cruising thru the archipelago but marina's there are a very few.....In a small sailing craft can be great fun if you are living on or near the coast.......The problem with any yatch is getting fittings when needed. I am not so sure about Cebu but there is plenty of places in Manila for all your needs.

There is quite a few hobie cat builders here where you can buy from. The best place to learn how to sail would be at one of the resorts who have hobie cats for rent and one of the local boy's from there would teach you. After that you can decide if you just want to rent or buy for yourself.

Its more fun in the Philippines I hope you make the move.

    Koala

hi steve i was in bohol last month ,went to panglo island which has lovely beaches .the thing about bohol its in most parts very rural its easy to find an ideal spot next to the sea land is quite cheap compared to mactan where i am .but you really need transport there as i believe the trycles don,t work late there.once you get outside tabigarlan it becomes very rural .i asked my g f if she would like to live there nope she replied its to hot lol personally i think its an ideal retirement retreat.

thyanks for the great advice so far, its being more rural that intrest me, i dont think we will be going out at night much so transport i am not to bothered about, we shall have a small van or bike, its getting the ballance right, panglao would be ideal but bohol is just across the bridge and if its cheaper, that might be a wiser choice, safety is the biggest thing, there are some great lots juts near alberquerque, with great views so there will be lots of light and breeze, but will it be secure, lots of things still to think about, trouble is we have the cash to buy a lot now, but where , Emma says buy because in 5 years time it will be loads more and if its not what we want at that time sell it
