Doesn't fill you with confidence - commonly known as Crapita - amongst other things they've screwed up are CRB checks

Interestingly enough they’ve just taken over Reliance Custodial Services – must be hoping to keep those vans filled !

I wonder if these means they will be asking our filipina wives to show their visas? Adhoc spot checks....

I know it is a job that needs to be done. I would just hope that Capita do their searches and go about their business, without harassing the law abiding Filipinas on spouse visas or ILR or even those with British Citizenship. If you see what I mean. Just a thought.

Wouldn't like to see them get heavy handed with the wrong people. Am trying to think how it might work in practice.

They will probably do it the simple way that the UKBA couldn't be arsed to do cross checking benefit records, NHS records, airline tickets, banks, money transfers etc etc

How would that work in practice? They spot a foreign looking individual then proceed to check their credentials? That would first have to initiate some kind of interview / questioning....maybe they would start from photographic I.D. to seek those out that had blatantly overstayed?

I have seen this at Tube stations Lastlid. I remember seeing them at Tooting Broadway Station which is probably a good place to do spot checks.
There are many easy ways to catch them if you apply yourself.
Perhaps they could start by insisting that all their staff take a Transit Van to the many Car Washes that spring up all over the place. Then simply check papers and if in doubt sling them in the back of the van. Then off for a spot of Lunch to the nearest Tandoori and the same thing there.

There is supposedly a network of local and national govt computers that are used for cross checking benefit claims for fraudsters ie have they given the same info about their offspring to local council (housing benefit) dhss (income support) hmrc (tax credits) a lot of these morons claiming benefit for 8 ficticious kids get the names and dates mixed up etc. I'm putting this into the context of illegals who are on false papers/have stolen an identity. For overstayers all they need do is keep a close watch on petrol stations, ethnic restaurants, car washes, doctors surgeries, Western Union outlets and so forth

I see. Good. Narrow it down a bit first. I would hate to find out that they had dragged my wife off, screaming and kicking, to the nearest airport....

There are plenty of databases out there that can be interrogated.
It's a question of authorisation to do it.
I've done this myself and it's quite labour intensive even when the ID of the person is known and is correct.

If there are various 'indentifiers' it starts to get more dificult, but still possible. However, access to some pretty confidential databases are needed. That would be my only concern.

I would imagine most of these people are deliberately keeping themselves below the radar and in these cases I don't think they will be found from computer analysis alone. Feet on the street will be needed.

They were the group of people I had in mind. Hence I wondered if they might try and spot check foreign looking people as a way around it.

I foresee room for error here and Capita making mistakes.......perhaps I am being too pessimistic?

They need to pop up now and again - illegal employment, health, sending money home. I'd also use satellite and aerial imagery and bust open every illegal shed/garage conversion etc in Southall, Slough, Ealing, Hounslow and so forth

They need to employ you as head of the team, Dedworth. Trouble is, you would want to execute them and all.

That just wouldn't be either cost or time effective for a private company.

I have seen it done though on the TV programme Border Patrol (I think that was the one)
Anyway UKBA people (usually in pairs) stood outside a chosen tube station at rush hour time and just observed people. They intimated they could 'risk assess' looks and body language etc. They did just ask a few selected questions to get results.
I don't think there's any question of dragging away anyone. There's just no space to put them.

I missed out on this one - I would have got hold of the tender doc's if I'd known there was a state funded bounty hunting contract up for grabs

Capita also specialise in occupational health. Many obligatory medical checks for offshore workers are carried out by Capita in Aberdeen. In that sector of their business they seem to carry out a fairly professional role.

They also specialise in absence management and offshore medical services.

And of course, following on from that, careers....
