    weekends and no work

why is it that we all cannot wait for the weekends for that extra stay in bed mode, but when the weekends here you wake up at the same time and you think you must get up too,

Good contract steve. When I worked in a factory I used to do 4 nights and saturday was overtime. Those days have gone.

It's the same at school, you were always knacked when it was time to get up for school, but come Saturday, wide awake at the crack of dawn. Weird.

I also work nearly all Saturdays - but it's Saturday evenings, so that lie-in can still be achieved. Then again, half 8 is a lie in for me, I don't need much sleep

Here our weekends are Thursday and Friday. If I have a duty on a weekend day or public holiday (runs 8am to 8am following day) I get a day off in lieu. However if we are at sea on the weekend then I lose that day. But it's not often we go to sea on a weekend unless we are on a voyage (very rare).
The rest of the time we work 07:30 to 14:00 sat-wed, so not too bad.
Admittedly I do wake up early on the weekends, but make up for it with a noon nap :-)

From when I was 21 years old until I was 40, I was an HGV driver and I think in all those years I only had about a dozen or so weekends off! Never had a day off sick in my life.
