Do you mean working a month before you get paid? That sot of thing?

I had to wait 5 weeks before I got paid in my job, when I first started. Yes. I had to have money in the bank to cover for it. (I get paid at the end of the month for the month worked.)

well sort off, the pay day is the 27th of each month, em started on the 3rd of this month training for 2 days then started on her shift the following monday, but they told her she will not get paid till next month october 27th, so really its just over 7 weeks

On the positive side, a nice sum for Em to spend on christmas shopping at the end of October.

Most work places you have to work a month in hand unless you get paid weekly

Sorry but I disagree. You shouldn't at any stage be owed 7 weeks wages by an Employer that is ridiculous. I understand the week in hand process but not 7 weeks.
She should be paid every pay day like everyone else. Obviously her first pay packet should be slightly reduced because she will not have worked a full month.

That is outrageous, everywhere I've worked, even if you start part way through the month I've received the pro-rata salary at the payday at the end of the month (whether that's the last Friday, last working day or even the 1st).

In fact when I arrived in my present position I was given my salary in cash the first month whilst everything was put into the accounting system.

I would definitely have her speak to HR about a reasonable compromise and lay on the emotions.

It makes life easier for them I suppose. I remember the company accountant running it by me at the time. I think if I had protested a little he may have istigated some pay at the end of that month. But I didnt.

Many companies start to put the wheels in motion for the end of the month, in the middle of the month, hence another reason why 5 or 6 weeks worth of pay at the end of the following month might occur.

A few years back a lot of my pay was in the form of daily bonuses and if we hadn't put our bonus claim form in by the middle of the month then we would have to wait till the end of the following month.

In other words, it depends on how the accountants are working things.

I think I know what you mean Steve. My wife seems to believe that she ought not challenge anybody under similar circumstances.
