Think about why immigration exists, its essentially racism. The principle is to prevent your country being overun by undesirables such as those who cannot afford to live in the country.
In most countries you can obtain residency by several methods such as; having skills that the country desires, bringing in investment, having exceptional talent, by being able to invest in the country or through family/marriage.

The stipulations linked to investment visas bring benefits to everyone, and many of the people coming in on investment visas aren't wealthy bankers, but business people who have worked hard to earn a living for themselves and bring jobs to other people.

The population of the UK isn't increasing anywhere near as rapidly as people assume, emmigration from the UK is also at a high level (not as much as immigration, but nonetheless still high). The problem is that the immigration that has occurred in the UK in the last 15 years hasn't been skilled people who can contribute to society, rather its people that a burden to the public services. It's nice to be charitable and allow people regardless of nationality the opportunities to work in the UK, but the last 15 years has proven that you can't just open up the borders freely.

Bring in skilled people, bring in money, bring in employers, let the country prosper.
