I still believe that part of the problem isn't simply immigration, but also the incentive to come to the country. It's like having a cookie jar for children, if there are no cookies in the jar they'll have no intention to put their hand in. Reduce the welfare state handouts, reduce the access to public services. If people really need asylum, give them the very basic to get back on their feet.

Skilled and professional migration on the other hand is very important for the country, and brings in many benefits. Having a skilled workforce encourages outside investment in the country and brings in positive diversity.

Some of the Iranian and Indian doctors in the UK are amongst the best surgeons in the world, along with experienced and skilled people from Europe, America and Australasia who all provide a benefit to the country.

Part of the problem is inequality in equality... Whereby to encourage equality additional rights are given to those who are a minority (whilst in the big scheme of things in this world, caucasians are the minority).
The other problem is religion, Islam in its self isn't a bad religion, in fact its very similar to Christianity. There are different denominations of Islam most of which are incredibly peaceful, however this contrasts with the Mujahideen or al-Queda who are a minority tarring the majority. The reality is that whilst the Government appears to be discouraging and moving away from religion (despite many of the laws in the UK based upon Christianity), they have pandered to the minority and brought some of the religious based problems on themselves. Many of the al-Queda followers are people from very poor backgrounds, who have been brainwashed in religion (i.e. those from the poorer areas of Pakistan etc). This bears similarity to the Philippines where people are brainwashed into following Catholism blindly, or the Klu Klux Klan....

Unfortunately the British can be very similar when it comes to integration overseas, the countless numbers of Brits who've emigrated to Spain and setup their own entire little communities where Spanish isn't spoken and you can buy your Fish n Chips or Cadburys Chocolate Fingers...

Immigration in the UK has brought in some awful people (Eastern European Violent Gangs, Asian Spongers, Islamic Extremism) but it's also brought in diversity and skills. I'd consider that the problem is more related to the laws and welfare state in the UK, then actually having open doors. Why else would people camp in Calais and risk their lives to come to the UK, when they have already travelled so far and reached a wonderful country.
Nice to see a balanced viewpoint.
