    Which name to use?

    Hello everyone!

I have just arrived in the UK last Oct 12, 2012 I hope someone can share/give some advice about this:

My husband and I are trying to starting to work on different applications for me (national insurance number, opening a bank account, joint account etc) right now.

My question is, my passport uses my single name....should I use the name in my passport or my married name?

Any advice or experience on this matter will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance!

hello,, u can use ur hubby's surname but they will ask for proof like marriage certificate.

they will change ur surname but they will retain ur middle name as that's what in ur passport. example, if u are cheryl mesa alquino and u married paul smith, u will be mrs. cheryl mesa smith.

Yep. I agree with that. My wife has been here a year now and that is how it has worked with us. She has used the NHS prolifically, opened a bank account etc etc etc.

That's exactly what we did too. Works very well all round with nice linking of names. Never had any problems at all and follows Philippine traditions. Everyone happy

    Thank you all
One of my concerns is that my passport name uses my maiden name. I could have changed it but I did not because it wasn't near the expiry date :S
My husband has been worried that we might find it difficult to open a bank account because it might require an ID with my married name...
And NSO marriage certificates do not put your married name...just your husband and your name before you were married...

Another thing we have not realized is the way naming in UK is different in the Philippines 0_0 (What a nightmare)...
In the UK, one's middle name is your "second name" . In the Philippines, you can have a second name and a middle name at the same time.

My wife uses my surname and her maiden name in the middle. Works well.

Also we had no problem opening a bank account using her passport and Marriage Cert with her maiden name in, as ID. She still used her married name for her name on the bank account. Her passport and MC were taken by the bank and copied.

So if my wife was called Mary Rose Navara and my last name was Smith then she could be put down as Mrs Mary Navara Smith or Mrs Mary Rose Navara Smith could anyone of the combinations be used?

im just recently used my husband's surname in my NHS card, i am trying to tell them that if they would write still my surename on my passport as my middle name now..so if ever i have my letter from them still my surename before, appear on my letter but when i received my new nhs card, they just only put my first name and my husband surename, is that alright for my next paper works ? but in our bank they still put my surename before.
