Filippina,s has the uk lived up to your expectations

hi there I was wondering to all the filippina,s that have arrived here on the forum if life here in the u.k is what you expected ? or were you let down in anyway by what you have seen so far ? are you planning to go back home because of home sickness ? just a general feeling overall about your thoughts of life here.

I know a friend moaning about her job in my face and getting sick of listening. If your girl has a good job tell her in advance that she cannot get what she expected in UK straight away.

My wife had no idea it would be so cold here. However, she has acclimatised quite well now, after a year.

Well after a year of living here, I find that UK has a very good environment and no traffic, well at the country side anyway..free NHS is good..although you have to wait a long time for an appointment if you want to see a specialist (as the case for hubby)..I haven't encountered nasty people here yet, so far so good..

But, as my visa hasn't been given to me yet after 7 months of waiting now, I can't have any work, even charity work, so can't comment on the employment side..I'm kinda adjusted to the weather but still doesn't like how it is here..

I feel that UK is so overrated..I mean lots would want to go and live here because of the "great" things they are saying like the country's history, benefits and all that..But look how the people complain because of that too. Lots of teenagers doesn't value family, education and also are lazy. In the Philippines, if you offer free education or give them any kind of job, I know most would not only gladly take it, but value it. Here, you have to bribe them just to go to school. And if they say they can't find work, there's the government giving them money..which really doesn't encourage them to find work to be honest. Also, justice system isn't that good too..In the Philippines, if you get money, it all comes to that they say. But here, I don't think justice is fair too. You know all what I'm saying.

So in my opinion, UK is just so-so..Just another country, not worse but not that great either..If it's just a vacation here, well I wouldn't miss the chance but I'd still prefer to live my life in the Philippines though. I'm not sure if my views would change as time goes by..but at the moment, that's how I see it.

One year living in the UK, things been good so far. I finally adjusted to the weather, got familiar with the place and glad my hubby and in-laws are showing me everywhere to get me more independent and confident where to go without them.

Job-wise, if you are not choosy, you can get one. A lot of Filipinos have qualifications back in Pinas but we have to be open-minded that everything has to be back from scratch when they are here in the UK.

NHS is good, they keep reminding us of our next check-up, but sometimes appointment takes a long time to wait though

I love the history, the tourist attractions, the country side. But I can't imagine living in the country side on winter, I feel like I wanna slit my throat coz it's too quite.

I encounter some British people seems to get everything the easiest way. They complain a lot of stuff (like benefits, housing and job) but they never work their a** off. Eventhough education is free and mostly everything is already laid down on their plates, they still prefer to be fed.

Overall, I can survive in the UK! But when I retire, I can still see myself and hubby (and our future family) hopping on a plane and go somewhere sunny sipping our favourite cocktail by the beach.

good point but lets also send all those that shouldnt be here along with the other european scum, then they have no excuse not to work, cut the lazy layabouts money handouts and make them work,
then perhaps the genuine sick can get the help they realy need

i think what we ought to remember is that many of our parents worked for these bennefits and ourselves too through our working lives as such for us its not a hand out for an easy life, its a right we paid for and earnt,
where its gone wrong is the generation of scroungers uk born and those that come here to scrounge and take advantage of what others have worked for,
its not right and it should be dealt with

your right I often wonder if the U.K did,nt have a generous benifit system would we be flooded with all the worlds scroungers .At least here in the philippines if you can,t work the family will chip in and help out .they get by without state handouts ok some will slip through the net but it encourages people to find work and get out of a bad situation.

thats right Imagine, if you've paid in you can take out.. its crazy that Europeans here can claim benefits after working for a short period. while those from outside the EU cannot claim 'recourse to public funds' until they have at least ILR in many cases that's 5yrs for those on work permits, whats that if its not discrimination ?

i think in my misses case, she has opportunities here she wouldn't have in the phils - career wise better training and better pay.

i am adjusted now to the life here in uk after two years. I dont call home now as much i as did before meaning homesickness is gone but then life here is just ok...not bad not so great. Living in uk means paying more tax and paying more bills to the point that you have to pay even by just using a drainage which i find it funny, tv licensing etc. At some point i feel that my life has been control by government rules. I miss having family around to help me about anything from household chores to looking after my kid. If my husband could just get a job in phils with same wage he is getting we would definitely go back there.

The uk is over rated deffinately but if you have money and can afford to live out in the countryside it can be good. Otherwise it is a rat race like everywhere else.
