As Quoted from a thread started by Sir Terpe:

"The UKBA page specifically for partners of a British citizen or of a person who is settled in UK can be found here
It's well worth taking time to review this page and to check out the links provided.

A successful visa application will result in being granted a UK visa for 33 months.
Shortly before the end of that period, application can be made to stay for a further 30 months provided all requirements continue to be met.
After completion of 5 years in the UK, as the partner of someone who is a British citizen or settled in the UK, then application for settlement can be made. This is known as Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
Look here at The Settlement page if you want more information about ILR."

Regarding the English Test, it is worth checking with your English Test Provider because there are some English Test Certificates that has no expiry (for example ESOL Skills for Life -Entry 1) To check the validity of your English Test, you can check in the this link http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/si...lish-tests.pdf .

As I understand it, Life in the UK Test is taken prior to ILR application. Find more information about how where and when to do the test in this link http://lifeintheuktest.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/

Biometric Residence Permit is issued upon approval of FLR. When you apply for Further Leave to Remain, you will be asked to enroll your biometrics as part of the process. Find more info in this link http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/vi...do-i-need-brp/
