Scottish, Welsh and Irish members might be surprised at the suggestion of English being more susceptible to mosquito bites!
• We don’t know how many of the roughly 100,000 annual UK visitors to the Philippines are bitten by mosquitoes. Most visits are trouble-free. 240 British nationals required consular assistance in the Philippines, in the year ended March 2012, for incidents including 89 deaths and 25 admissions to hospitals.
Of serious mosquito-borne infections, the TOTAL numbers of imported cases to this country ( not just from Philippines ) are no more than several hundred dengue and around 2000 malaria each year. Others are far less common.
• As for Filipinos, there were over 50,000 cases of dengue in the first half of this year, and a much smaller number of malaria cases ( exact figures not available ).
• There’s plenty advice elsewhere on the forum for avoiding mosquito bites, with information about malaria, dengue, and other less common diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.

• There does seem no doubt, however, that complaints of bites and stings – caused by a variety of insects - are on the increase in the UK. In most cases they’re just an annoyance, although occasionally they may cause an allergic / anaphylactic reaction requiring immediate medical treatment.
