Mosquitoes and the English

What is it about Mosquitoes that attracts them more to English people?

Whenever i have been in the Philipppines, regardless of repellant, i always seem to get bitten to death. Lots of red marks , itching like mad. hereas my wife and her family being Filipino, seem to hardly ever get bitten at all!

I think the little blighters prefer the sweet white flesh!

What I did notice whenever I went to Thailand, was that even though I was bitten like mad the first couple of days, after eating nothing but what the locals did, they then seemed to leave me alone.

Maybe it's too "obvious" to suggest it's due to using lemongrass, but who knows.

Got a nice collection of bites though from my recent four weeks in Phils. The missus has none!

That just attests to the fact that every creature in the Philippines (no matter how small or big) craves for royal blood. Haha!

I get a few when I am in Phils too, but i have learnt to cover my legs and arms in the early evening, which seems to be the worst time. I always sleep under a double sized mozzie net which covers our bed from ceiling to the floor, so i get a good night's sleep (when the good lady lets me )

But even here in Shanghai, I have been zapped a few times, mostly though when i fall asleep on my way to and back from my work (an hour each way) I have a driver, I dont drive here But i do HATE mosquitos

An antihistamine seems to help me, take about 3 to 4 per week.

definately white meat syndrome my g f hardly ever gets bitten but I have squadrens of them attacking me if I go outside .I have found the only stuff that stops them is stuff call OFF ive tried alsorts but this stuff is the real deal i never go out of the house unless i,m totally covered in it and i never get bitten .In the house i spray bayon and it kills them instantly I keep all windows and doors closed at all times and that keeps them out mostly .

Yes this is of some interest / worry to me as I am headin over at begining of december ,, although I am definatly not english I doubt if the pesky little varmints will realise this before biting me !!!!! Unfortunatly I seem rather a good bite for them , getting regularly attacked in spain holland and now even in my own dear scotland !!!!!!! I read with interest of something called OFF ,,and BAYON , are these products widelly available in Manila or are they sourced here ,,,,,, help please !!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband bought a mosquito repellent in the UK before he flew to the Philippines. It was effective, I think apart from the fact that it made his skin very oily.

OFF is sold in most supermarkets as well as bayon its a green and red can and kills all insects instantly best of all cock roaches they are about 2 inches long here and when you spray them with bayon they instantly stop flip over legs kicking and die on the spot lol OFF is very effective also ive never been bitten usin that stuff .the mosquito bites are harmless apart from the ones that carry dengue fever they can put you in hospital but you gotta be pretty unlucky to come across them .they give a flue like symptom
but can lead to more serious complications there is no cure yet for that fever.Ive been here 18 months and so far avoided dengue maybe im lucky but like i said i make sure i plaster that off all over exposed skin before i venture out.

Jungle Formula is good, works for me. You can get it in the high street in the Uk. In Phils you can buy a can of 'Baygon' which sprayed in your bedroom about 20 minute before you decide to go to sleep will rid the room of mozzies.

I still prefer the net idea as it is more friendly to the environment, alternatively, get one of those electric tennis rackets and enjoy the hunt and 'crack and burn' when you get the little beggers.

i think they are pump action sprays rather than aerosol, the deet one i have is anyway,
but all the same it is liquid and i guess for that reason put in your cargo luggage

Wow! didnt expect so much response on this thread...........although i should have said "British" and not "English". Dont think Garlic makes any difference as i eat tons of the stuff...and when i am in the phils i always eat same as the locals because we eat whatever the wifes family are cooking/eating.
Tried the oily repellants and they are great at tasking the print off of a carrier bag onto your clothes...but didnt seem to repel many mosquito's!

There's a lot of support towards the theory that it has something to do with the deposits and the bacteria left on the skin from sweating.
So it might have some link to the foods or drinks we take.

i doubt its your lap top, i found sometimes i have almost duplicated but a warning usually pops up,
