The population of Houston, at least, appears to have gone that way. White Caucasians are now in a minority with the rest being black american or mexican.
Makes for a great blend and choice of restaurants including Tex - Mex's of course.!

Well it like many "race" things gets political. It's like the "Is Obama really black" ridiculous debate.
Mexicans are a pretty mixed bunch if you try to define them racially. Many are almost pure Spanish, many mixed with the native Americans who may have lived there when the Spanish colonised the place.
To call Hispanics non-white, we'd also have to say Spanish, Greeks etc aren't white.
So maybe it's an older issue, where some people weren't classed as white enough. Crazy really
