Hello there pleased to meet you, I'm afraid their requirements for the English exam is a total band score of 6.0 regardless of the individual score of all categories :(

I am afraid to tell you that you fail. The passing score that the UKBA requires is 4.0 to all components in IELTS.

You need to retake the test.

Yep that was before but the new rule states that and i quote

    Approval criteria for English language
There are two ways in which applicants can meet and evidence the English language
    requirement:
    • an International English Language Test System (IELTS) test report, showing
an overall band score of six or above, which was issued no more than two
years before the date of the application; or
    • an academic qualification, at Bachelors degree level that was taught in English
and is equivalent to a UK Bachelor degree. This does not need to be gained
within any set period. • Exceptionally, if the person already has an equivalent English language
certificate, we can accept this, if it is equivalent to IELTS band six. This does
not need to be gained within any set period. end quote

i just read their updated policy, too bad its getting harder every time :(

I stand to be corrected but that link you given me is an old rule me love.

That link I gave you is the recent one have a look on the top part of the page.

Also, she is applying for a fiancee visa and the minimum requirement is 4.0 only.

Im sure we will know who is right and wrong when we get one of the experts attention in here.

I got this from the UKBA website
This is for highly skilled migrants or workers going to UK, and not for spouses/fiancee's/partners. An overall band score of 4.0 still stands for settlement visas.

Make sure you do a lot of practice test before you do a retake. There are lots of free online practice tests. Just search Google. If you are still not confident you would be able to pass the retake, why not try to avail their training, if you have a spare cash to do it. Practice makes perfect.

No problem k4k..You just found out that even case workers don't know all the rules which causes confusion to applicants.

she needs to obtain atleast 4.0 in each component. even if she gets 9 on listening and 3.5 in reading with a band score of 7 still she fail as 4.0 is the minimum requirements for IELTS.
