    Rotheram By Election

    Yorkshire. Thursday.

Here is the full list of candidates running:

    Simon Wilson, Conservative
    Sarah Champion, Labour
    Michael Beckett, Liberal Democrat
    Marlene Guest, BNP
    David Wildgoose, English Democrats
    Simon Copley, Independent
    Paul Dickson, Independent
    Clint Bristow
    Yvonne Ridley, Respect
    Ralph Dyson, TUSC
    Jane Collins, UKIP

Some interesting Rag Tag and Bobtail parties in there.

I thought the English Defense League were going to field a candidate, which would have made an interesting 3 way fight, but obviously not....oh hang on its Clint Bristow....

"Hope not Hate can exclusively reveal that the English Defence League are standing a candidate at the forthcoming Rotherham by-election.

Yvonne Ridley is an unusual one. Captured by the Taliban and upon her release converted to Islam.

Just the Monster Raving Loony Party missing......though I imagine that Dave Cameron will claim that they are represented by UKIP.

So it went to labour then. (Haven't been watching the news over the last day ) Just catching up.

"Labour candidate Sarah Champion won in Rotherham with 9,866 votes to UKIP candidate Jane Collins' 4,648.

The BNP and Respect pushed the Conservatives into fifth place, while the Lib Dems lost their deposit, trailing in eighth - thought to be the worst by-election result in the party's history.

It has been a Labour seat for about 300 years and was only up for election because the previous Labour MP was caught with his hands in the expenses till. As is common during by elections the party in power normally loses. Shows the lack of intelligence of the local voters voting Millipedes trough feeders back.

I doubt if Cameron will be reaching for the sleeping tablets

I think Dave is in between a rock and a hard place just now. More so than ever.

I think it starts to get interesting now. You'll have the Tories courting UKIP and Clegg and the Liberals trying to distance themselves from the Tories.
One good thing that could come from all this is that we might in the not to distant future actually get a referendum on Europe.

And then there is the Alex Salmond / Devolution thing. Things are definitely hotting up now for the governement. A potential double whammy.

I agree with you Ded victory for Labour in Rotherham was never in doubt. However the one thing confirmed by the 3 election results last night is that the Liberals are finished as a political force.
This is why the Tories are now cosying up to UKIP. UKIP could do some serious damage to the Tory vote in some areas.

Having thankfully been out of Govt for 2 years the socialists have come up with some simple solutions to solve the country's ills. Ed Balls Up ( majority 1101 ) wants to spend loads of money we haven't got and has just started making opportunistic noises about an immigration policy

Any government cant be as bad as this one. In my lifetime I have never seen such a big divide between the north and south. And rich and poor. But you know the saying? Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves. And thats what the tories are doing.
