This is so typical of modern ay politics though. Cameron knows that the best he can hope for at the next election is another hung parliament with possibly UKIP replacing the Liberals as the third party. Time to start thinking about dumping Nick and get friendly with good old Nige even if you think he's a loon.
Principled Politicians is a thing of the past.
I couldn't put my faith in Nige as long as my wife is waiting for ILR and even citizenship. UKIP are an unknown quantity and what little we know doesn't sound great for our Filipina wives and fiancees that are yet to arrive in the UK.
If UKIP expressly listed settlement visas as an exception to their 5 year freeze then I might feel a tiny bit happier. Currently what is most worrying is what they aren't saying as much as what they are saying.

.....as I cant vote in UK elections while I am resident in the Isle of Man. However, whoever is in power dictates Immigration policy for the Isle of Man. So I have a vested interest in all of this.None will get my vote.

On immigration policy, yes - reliant on westminster. If UKIP got their way and there was a 5 year freeze then it would probably affect the IOM too. Yet I cant vote in the UK election.

That's the way things "just are" in the UK though. Nationalist parties in some parts of Scotland and Wales aside, the UK has two parties, and no other new party has ever been able to get support.
The only time anything close to this has happened, is when the Labour party was formed, they all but replaced the Whig/Liberal party. This however was very much a special case, as there wasn't a full-on left wing party at the time, and Labour was a radical thing. This though was back in the 1920's.
Maybe if PR was ever introduced, this would change.
