There are no changes to the Partner/Spouse Visa application
The application form VAF4A remains unchanged, although the Guidance notes have recently been updated so better to check out that guide.

The other very important change is in connection with payment methods for the visa.
You must read the UKBA announcement here called Mandatory online payment for UK visas in the Philippines

You must pay in US dollars using a Visa card or MasterCard. We will not accept other methods of payment from this date.

not everyone has a credit card, also i wonder how many cards will get blocked by their bank if you try and use your UK credit card if the site is not in the UK

    Hi Joannet,
As the UKBA states, payment MUST be made online and MUST be made via a Visa Card or Mastercard. It MUST be paid in dollars.

    There's really no workaround.
However, making online payments by Visa Card or Mastercard does not necessarily mean having a credit card.

There are a number of 'pre-payment' Visa Cards and Mastercards.
    Often called pre-payment currency cards.
These can be available for balances and spends in Dollars, British Pounds Euros etc.

One such card that I have experience with is from Caxton FX
If you want more information just google caxton FX

These cards are not credit cards.
There are however 'Chip and PIN' and can be 'loaded' online or by telephone etc.

If your husband would get one he could also get one for you too.
Your hubby can top up your card and you can use it just as you would any debit card for direct purchase or ATM withdrawals.

However, that card needs loading from a bank account.
Just how you can move the hard cash you have to an electronic load on the card I don't know. There are many possibilities for the international transfer of cash. (just for example Western Union)

Why not discuss with your husband about the options available.

Why do you think you have to be there?

Paying by card is part of the online process therefore all that is needed are the card details added to the application.

I'm not sure Sheldon about that.
Yes, for sure you'd need to inform the card issuer.
As I suggested to Joannet, may be a good idea to call VFS and seek their advice also on this.

Yes Sheldon please do keep us all informed on your findings. Thanks

The new payment process starts on the 17th December, they have not updated the web page yet.

If you complete an online visa application form before 17 December 2012, you can still use other methods of payment until 13 January 2013.

I thought about that. But wife does not have the money transferred yet. So it will be the 17th at the earliest. If she filled in the application form tomorrow (Sunday) she would still need payment prior to sending in the application form. So Monday my wife will apply online. And then i will check her application and pay for it with my card details. If it does not go through because it's a visa debt not a credit card. Then i will have to transfer the money on to my Mastercard (credit card) and try that way. I wonder if the UKBA are after making a commision for using a Credit Card. 5% usually.

Mandatory Online Payment for UK Visas for Singaporeans

    Friday, December 09, 2011

From 16 January 2012, all UK visa applicants in Singapore will be required to pay for their visa online, as part of the online application process using either a Visa card or Mastercard, according to the latest announcement from UK Border Agency (UKBA).

UK visa applicants from Singapore will soon be able to pay for their applications online with more types of cards bearing the Visa and Mastercard logos. In addition to credit cards, from 16 January 2012, applicants can use debit cards and pre-paid cards as well and other methods of payment will not be accepted.

Thanks. Good advice. I am anticipating this issue. If the husband is paying for the fee on his Card then he will actually have to complete the final process. Because payment is the last bit of the form. So he will also have to print it. Unless the wife has the card details. Santander have a security policy where you have to put in a password. I am sure other banks also have this. I have to complete this tomorrow morning. Any ideas? It looks like according to Joe's post. Debit cards may not be accepted? How will i know? until i complete the process?

according to the front page of the online application website, it says that they accept paypal.

    http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ApplyNow.aspx

Not until you start the online process, you wont be sure what is required.

When we applied from the UK for ILR we just filled in our debit card details.

You are the applicant, therefore it is your husbands details they need in the spouse/partner section.

The same application form is used for many different types of settlement. In your case the spouse and the sponsor are the same.
