but how can you compare unless your comparing exactly the same item,
what's a mars bar cost in the phils (that's if you can find one ?)

and your comparing london prices of £1,600 to £2,600 for a 3 bed apartment,

i think if you shop around, you'll get everything alot cheaper up.norf

    I'm not comparing anything Joe.

It's a website that compares typical Manila prices to those of LONDON...both capital cities.

I thought it might be of interest to some members.

Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again. But life goes on.
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the passion that she shows to the outside world.

There's a lot of factors that cannot be simplified into such comparisons.

London is the capital of a highly developed and social country.
The spend on many key 'service' issues is hugely different.

where ever you live you will always get two different people living two different ways, one can live without this and that the other cannot, think of the budget and try to stick to it, better too if you get your partner to buy everything

Number one factor in London for cost is housing. Frankly take this out, and you could live in London pretty much as cheaply as anywhere else in the UK. To take two ridiculous extremes, you could look at Harrods and say this is London prices - or you could go to Tesco or even the poundshop and see something more realistic.

Plenty of people in London with a lot of money, and there will be shops catering for this, but of course there are plenty of normal people with more modest wages, and there are normal supermarkets, markets etc to cater to this end.

Housing though is ridiculous. Compare to my town, the "best" area of town, with sweeping parkland, private prep schools a grammar school, trees galore.......you get the picture. You could buy a new 4 bed detached home here, in middle class seclusion on it's private culdesac for a bit over £200,000.
Way over my price range, but the nearest equivalent quality of area in London, I would say is St Johns Wood or Wimbledon Village. I don't need to compare prices there to make a point.

Oh and most areas in this town, I would say I would be pretty safe walking on my own after dark, even on the estates. Centre of London isn't as unsafe as people sometimes think, but all the same..........and the suburbs of London, you'd have to be crazy to do that in some areas.

Interesting to read. I'd happily pay UK taxi fares. The taxi driver taking me anywhere i want is worth the cost alone. But it is undrrstanding some of the differences as they do highlight that for some things you get what you pay for. For an 8 peso jeepney tide i don't expect luxury or a comfy ride. Although i do always try to grab the business class seats (upfront with the driver). The exchange rate of late would no doubt make alot of differences. Considering it used to be 100peso/1pound rented accommodation doesn't feel so cheap anymore.....
