The same law applies as did under the Labour Government

    this will make dedworth

Chris Bryant MP, Labour’s Shadow Immigration Minister, in response to the number of foreign national offenders living in the community, said:

“Instead of looking for legalistic excuses, it is time David Cameron finally woke up to his Government's incompetence. Exactly the same law applies as did under the Labour Government, yet the Home Secretary is deporting almost 1,000 fewer foreign criminals than the Labour Government deported.

Interesting figures. Found this piece in the times that reminds us that Blair sacked Charles Clarke in 2006 for releasing foreign criminals instead of deporting them. Perhaps it's time for Cameron to recognise that the Home Secretary is not up to the job.

I'd deport Bryant back to Wales. He's no doubt fudging figures with the usual socialist historical slant

Labours final year is that 2009 ?

First full year of Tory led - so that must be 2011. Obviously he felt a need to have his say without the 2012 figures.

Anyhow a spot of good news this is from The Guardian (aka Daily Handwringer)

As from April 2013 and the introduction of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act, it will be impossible for foreign national prisoners who wish to challenge deportation proceedings to get legal advice from a solicitor unless they are able to pay for it themselves. "It is not right to subject someone to a serious sanction of deportation without giving them the means to understand the situation and to assert the rights provided for them by law," commented DAS director Nigel Caleb. Quite. By the way, all deportations papers served by the UKBA are written entirely in English.
