How does this look for a sample employers letter for visa purposes :)

    Hi

As we all know, the wonderful UKBA want certain information from our employers, namely

Letter from the employer confirming the person’s employment and annual salary, the length of their employment (and the period over which they have been or were paid the level of salary relied upon in the application), and the type of employment (permanent, fixed-term contract or agency).
Sounds easy to understand - well yes, but with these government people, it's best perhaps to be absolutely explicit in these documents.

A large company might have their own wording, but any of us employed by a smaller employer, well it might be best to ask him/her to make sure he/she drafts a letter making it absolutely clear the information is being provided, and that nothing seems to be missed out.

Sooooo, this is what I've asked my employer to write

    To whom it may concern.

I am writing on the request of my employee XXXX XXXXXX, to confirm his employment status for visa purposes.

XXXX has been working in this company since XXth XXXX 20XX.

He is on a permanent contract.

His hours are XX evenings a week, each lasting XX hours giving core hours of XX hours per week.
He is paid £X.XX per hour giving an annual salary of £XXXX.XX, plus overtime.

He is paid every XXXXX directly into his bank account.

The period I am quoting for covers a six month period from Insert your month 2012 to Insert your month 2013 inclusive.

I trust this shall meet your requirements, and should you need further information, I can be contacted.

Now as far as I can see, that covers all bases It states the type of contract, states an annual salary (They seem to want to see this, although after reading their guidance notes yet again, I am more convinced this isn't a dealbreaker since they state about hourly rates, but hey - this covers that base in their requirements quoted above) It shows when this is paid, and importantly, it states exactly the period being quoted - this does seem ambiguous in their criteria, the period relied on, but I think my wording here makes it very explicit, maybe more than they even need.

Does anyone think this looks good? Do feel free to use if you like it or suggest better amendments.

I don't think they will mind these looking like templates, as really they just want to see the statement and the boss's signature confirming it.

When Keith supplied a supporting letter to be included in my fiancee visa application, it was 6 pages!!!! I think the forum have a thread here about what details can be included in a supporting letter.

Hi- this is like a letter I had drafted for my wife's visa application, and fulfils rhe requirements of Appendix FM. But before we submitted her application Appendix FM-SE came out, which states:

12A. Where the financial requirement the applicant must meet under Appendix FM relates to adequate maintenance, paragraphs 2 to 12 apply only to the extent and in the manner specified by this paragraph. Where such a financial requirement applies, the applicant must provide the following evidence:(a) Where the current salaried employment in the UK of the applicant or their partner, parent, parent's partner or sponsor is relied upon:(i) A letter from the employer confirming the employment, the gross annual salary and the annual salary after income tax and National Insurance contributions have been paid, how long the employment has been held, and the type of employment (permanent, fixed-term contract or agency).

This paragraph seems to add the additional requirement of includimg your net salary after NI and income tax into the letter.

It wasn't clear to me through all the legal wording if this was only required for certain types of financial proof so I amended my employer's letter wording anyway to make absolutely sure.

By the way, the link to Appendix FM-SE is:

Good luck- my wife has her visa and she will be coming back to the UK with me in a week or so. It's a great feeling.
