I just can't believe the media frenzie over a little bit of horse. There are probably a lot worse things in them. Here in Oman, the butcher at the supermarket has a burger press, you just select your cut of meat (not pork), and he prepares the burgers for you. Easy.
    Frozen £1 mush burgers, urgh.

    Not just horsemeat either.

...Traces of pork in lots of the burgers.

There must have been lots of muslims hoof been eating those too.

I think the media were also having a bash at the all powerful supermarkets who have pushed responsibilities onto suppliers.
Maybe the world has changed too much for some. When I had any kind of responsibilities for those products from suppliers I made darn sure that the specifications and requirements demanded were met.

If I buy a product that states 100% british beef, guess what? That's what I expect. I don't expect around 30% to be something else.
The media also picked up on the very high levels of certification and traceability needed for food products and especially British meats. But imported meats from within EU does not. By all reports it seems that the raw unprocessed product came from Spain and Italy.

Perhaps there should be an explanatory note on the packaging that states something to the effect that 100% British Beef may contain up to 30% of other 'stuff'

Yeah, it all just goes to show that despite all the (presumably EU) regulations...cheating, corruption and general shistery are alive and well.....as if we hadn't guessed.

a lot of these processed meats, i'm sure the meat content is low like 30% and the rest if not more is reconstituted meat and other

I have not expected that kind of thing for probably 25 years or more in the UK , from British organisations, companies or politicians.

Overall, with the many issues UK has had with 'foods' over the years, and with all the certifications and traceability put in place, most of us believe British Beef is the safest and best anywhere in the world.

This sort of story does not help, despite the fact that it's not British beef.
Might be British horsemeat though considering the huge quantities we export.
Seems British horsemeat is the tops.
Although it's not traceable as a food as the horses are sold and transported live out of UK for processing.
