Is this Life in the UK test, or a Citizenship test?

Yes ... I believe that once upon a time, the 'Life in the UK Test' was designed for foreign nationals seeking to become naturalised British Citizens.

However, it was later extended to include those applying for ILR.

's my understanding anyway ... ... feel free to correct me about this on the offchance I've got it wrong.

Thanks for that Stevie & Arthur, but does that mean that as of today my Maritess has got to now learn the new life in the uk test? because she's just spent months learning 2012 test and she's just about ready to book it. She did arrive here June 2012.

Hi Michael, I am now studying using a 2012 LITUK handbook. I am scheduled to take the test this coming February to avoid the March changes. I understand that passing this test has no expiration. So fingers crossed that I will be lucky and there is no need for a retake since my future ILR application will be made after the new test has been implemented.

My pleasure Sir Arthur. It's nothing compared to what you and Sir Terpe have done for everyone (like me) in this forum.

I assume that all those having already passed the old "Life in the UK" test and that have ILR will NOT be asked to retake the NEW test on applying for citizenship?

Hi Filbrit, Yes Terpe is pretty amazing with all the groundwork he's done for everyone, he's a real star and we would be lost without his help, we can't thank him enough!! I will go ahead and book Maritess for next month (February) she won't be due to take her ILR until May next year and I believe she has to take her IELTS again because her present IELTS expires approx three weeks before her ILR application. Good luck with your Life in UK test

Michael, thanks for your kind words but it's too much. You're making me embarrased.
We're very lucky in our forum in that we have a huge range of experienced folk both here and over in the Philippines.
Even more important is that every member is ready to contribute to supporting those who need a helping hand.
    Now that's something special IMO

    Teamwork is the key

By the way, Maritess can apply for ILR 28 days before the 24 month anniversary of her living in UK. I hope that's a help?

I so agree. When I was new here, I immediately noticed that bright star Mr. Terpe ) Sir Terpe, it's like you are born to help us all and you're so great in doing it.

Good luck to your wife too, Michael. I was just reading this and I thought I'd share it to Maritess: http://lifeintheuktest.ukba.homeoffi...e/self_10.html. My English test also expires before my ILR :(, we asked the UKBA case worker when I applied for my FLR if I need to take another English test, he couldn't give me a direct Yes or No answer!

It's better not to assume anything about UKBA in these days.

All I can tell you is that there has been no announcements about the validity of tests already taken and passed.
I think it would be highly unlikely that the UKBA will refuse to honour any pass certificates issued before this new test comes into effect. After all they are allowing folks to book and take the new test right now and up to the new downdate.

Remember though it's important not to lose/misplace any current test certificate. You will not be allowed a replacement certificate and you will have to take the test again.

    Hope that helps.
