Something I've always intended to do, but never got round to...take a seat in the public gallery at our local Crown Court.

I last watched in our Magistrates Court a few years ago 2 pieces of scum who broke into my mates car and were spotted in action by a security guard in a nearby office block. Depressing spectacle seemingly geared up to pander to the offenders rather than punish. Large numbers of handwringers (probation officers, social workers) reading out litanies of excuses. Needless to say they (one adult & a 17 year old) were let off - adult now serving a long sentence for attempted murder and if I'm not mistaken the other scrote did us all a favour and overdosed.

A friend of mine has been a Magistrate for quite a few years now, which still amuses me, considering his earlier career as a particularly dodgy secondhand car dealer. Also has acquired a PhD in Criminology.

I was particularly astonished though, to discover that another (mutual) friend, also a car dealer and local wideboy a few years ago...has since become a commercial airline pilot with one of our major airlines ! He dropped in at my workplace a couple of years ago, complete with smart uniform.
