Ded's thread immediately gives rise to two fundamental questions:

Why was an otherwise routine, non-urgent procedure such as circumcision carried out in a domestic setting - just a short distance from the nearest hospital - using only the most basic of [makeshift] surgical instruments??

Why was it performed by a midwife ... whose principal remit is to assist women giving birth?

... can ANYONE come up with remotely justifiable answers???
