Well we informed our local MP about it and they got the copy of my approval letter from UKBA and all the other details. We're just waiting for their response on what to do next.

...After waiting for 10.5 months, all my documents has been delivered!!! It was signed by Temporary Migration Team and dated 13th February 2013! Whew! All this waiting is finally over! Thank God for that!I just have to re-study again for the Life in the UK test as I want to take it before the test changes on 25th March.
A very big THANK YOU to everyone here who helped me in praying and wishing for the release of my visa and documents.I'm over the moon as the waiting and all the heartaches are over! We'll definitely apply ILR via PEO in 2 years..saves us experiencing the same situation again.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong, few years ago you can register for your NI via post. You just have to request for the application form. That's what my other friend did.
When starting work or setting up as self-employed
If you start work or set up as self-employed you must apply for a National Insurance number if you do not have one. You do not need to have a plastic National Insurance number card. If you have the right to work in the UK, you will need to telephone Jobcentre Plus on Tel 0845 600 0643 to arrange to get one. Lines are open 8.00 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday and are normally less busy before 9.00 am. They may require you to attend an 'Evidence of identity' interview - see section 'What happens when you apply for a National Insurance number'.
You must apply for a National Insurance number to start work but you don't need to have a plastic National Insurance number card.
If you're not a UK citizen and want to find out whether you have the right to work in the UK, please read the guide 'Documents you will need before you can work in the UK'. The other two guides below explain how you'll pay tax and National Insurance when working.

I called the number stated above and was told that I need an Evidence of Identity interview. The lady on the other end of the line did however get some details from me. I'm not sure why others are required to have the interview and others just need to fill-up the form via post.

i think it varies around the country some areas you can do it by post others you need to attend an interview, my wife and stepson had to.
