Hi everyone Patrick here what will change when the baby arrives

My wife next month is expecting our first born how exciting
The thing I am wondering is will I now be able to get benefits
My wife has no public funds stamped on her passport so it's a no no for her to claim public funds but as I understand I could claim.
I am renting a by the time all bills and payed we have nothing left.
What I want to know will I be able to claim housing benefit with my wife and child as a dependent
I wanted to try for the sure start grant but I don't think I can claim this can someone tell what I can claim and how to go about it
    Thanks so much

well--i know several people who do exactly the same work as you do--and--with all the overtime they do---they earn good money.

but--couldnt your wife have got a job?--i presume she got a FLR ?

i would have thought a few years with both of you working full time--and saving for your immediate future--would have been the way forward

but--bit late for that. so--as regards HB and whatever else--put a claim in--they can only say no--then you will know where you stand

    Hi Patrick,

As a first step take a look here at the thread called No Recourse to Public Funds

As long as you are the named claimant you'll have no problems with Child Benefit and Tax Credits.

Review the thread, and if you have specific questions just raise them here.

    Hope this helps
