    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We recently were naturalised despite having expired passports( with our ILR Stamp in them ) . NCS and UKBA accepted our P60 Tax statements and letters from our childrens school ( to prove they were attending ) as proof of us being in the UK since the passports expired . ( in my wifes case the passport expired in 2009)

    What do you think?......

    Hi PAT,

    1. In principle for the purposes of British Citizenship application it makes no difference that your current Philippine passport is expired.
However take notice of this on the application form:-

SECTION 1 Evidence of identity: required for all applications
    • *Your passport OR
    • *National identity card OR
    • *Home Office travel document OR
    • *Home Office entitlement card OR
    • *Home Office ARC letter OR
    • Your birth certificate OR
    • *Your driving licence

*if you used one of these documents when you took the Knowledge of Life in the UK test you will be expected to use it again by
enclosing it with your naturalisation application.
If the name you are currently using is different from the name on your passport or travel document you should send evidence of
    the change of name
    2. Personally I tend to agree with sars, it's never a good idea to have your passport (best ID and only travel document) not valid.
Plenty of people get caught out that way.

When are you eligible for British Citizenship application ?

I feel you could get your passport renewed fairly quickly.
My only concern is that you would be without any travel document until you either renewed the Philippine passport or until you received a British Passport. The latter could take quite some time.

Thanks Terpe that is a very good reply I was just checking this but I think your reply covers all I was going to say.

Suppose it COULD conceivably depend on how soon Pat's eligible to apply for citizenship. If, say, the earliest date she's entitled to do so were IMMINENT, I'm wondering whether it might possibly be worthwhile contacting her nearest Local Authority Checking Service - explaining her dilemma - then see what the staff there suggest.

... let's say, for instance, she was able to secure an early appointment ... they might accept her current passport along with a covering letter setting out what would, after all, be a perfectly legitimate reason for presenting it, i.e. she'd be wanting to apply for a British Passport once naturalised ... so WHY then go to the bother - plus added expense - of renewing her Filipino Passport for the sake of a few weeks?

    ...purely a thought!

Hello Terpe, thank you for responding.I got my ILR first week of Feb.last year.Yes,we understand what you mean.It would be months having expired passport. We need to book an appoint plus the processing time. So,it would be quite long....
