Never been to Boracay.
Is it really that busy?! You would have to pay me to go there!
I know Jamie my opinion which is the opposite to that held by many on here. Re the twinning I was trying to come up with resorts starting with a B - Aya Napa, Magaluf, Playa de las Americas, Cancun, Phuket, Lloret de Mar could be substituted imho
I feel that the place has been ruined forever by mass tourism (not that I ever went there before it was on the tourist trail). There are untold other tropical paradise islands in the Phils without rip off prices pitched firmly at a captive customer.
I know what you're saying about rip-off prices but not all of Boracay is the same. It's just usually around D'Mall.
Not quite sure if we went to D'Mall the bit that put me off straight away was the kind of boardwalk along the edge of the beach with the idiots doing henna tats and so forth. When we got into our room I thought I was in Torremolinos or suchlike - building site going on down the corridor, got a very surly attitude when I demanded an immediate move.
The only place I felt comfortable at and not being ripped off was Craftys Rooftop Bar.
I've not been to Boracay for a few years, but I think that the tourism industry on the island has been handled much better than many other destinations around the world. The Philippines should be proud of what they have achieved on Boracay.
I wouldn't visit Boracay for a quiet beach holiday, but it's a fantastic destination and certainly nothing like Blackpool, Benidorm or Cancun!
