    rent went up...ugh

Rent went up by 10 pounds per week. I find it totally absurd since the central heating doesn't work well and is not consistent. It's 3 degrees now and our heater is dead. My husband had to buy 2 portable ones. The handyman would come and fix it but it'll only last for like a week or 2 and then nothing. Dead again. Our bathroom doesn't even have a heater! Plus the thing that annoys me the most is for more than a month now we've been having problems with rodents. Ever since they sent people to renovate the other rooms, the pests must've been disturbed and now they're going to our room. I have to buy like boxes of mouse poison but they still seem to hang around. The other tenants have the same problem and they didn't agree about the rent going up as well. I mean, come on, shouldn't they address the problems first before asking for more money? However, since I've just been here for a couple of months, I am not sure if it's okay for me to talk to them about it or if I should just suck it up. When we moved here everything seemed okay plus it was perfect since it's close to my work and my husband's bus stop's just a minute away but now, I don't know. Oh and the fuse for the water heating in the shower broke down, the handyman couldn't be bothered since he's busy. He keeps saying he'll come in the weekend but it's been almost 2 weeks now. I just bought a pail and fill it up with water from the sink every time we take a bath. Anyway, comments will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

    Agreed.
But it's always a difficult and stressful situation.

Solely on a pragmatic perspective, it's never a good idea to make an enemy of your landlord, and it doesn't sound like he really cares too much.

You need to do something about this and not let the rogue landlord get away with it. Have a look here :-

If you are living in a house in multiple occupation you should be able to report any problem to your local council's environmental health officer, in confidence - they do not have to say who contacted them.

And if they do report it and the landlord has to put new heating in. Will he raise the rent again?.
