Hong Kong court denies domestic workers residency

Hong Kong's top court has ruled that domestic workers are not eligible to apply for permanent residency, ending a two-year battle that has split opinion.

Personally I believe it's wrong and unjust

But right or wrong I suppose the courts couldn't really decide any different given that

"The FDH [foreign domestic helper] is obliged to return to the country of origin at the end of the contract and is told from the outset that admission is not for the purposes of settlement and that dependants cannot be brought to reside in Hong Kong," the Court of Final Appeal said in a written judgement

yes but that's only a recent change here, also in the UK is the 10yr legal and 20yr not so legally here routes

Mixed feelings.

At least here is a (overcrowded) state who are willing to back up THEIR right to decide which immigrants' 'rights' they want control over.

Only wish I'd gone there a couple of years sooner, as I'd have had residency after only 7 years.
