I doubt if they would share the same sentiments what with high living costs ,debt problems and lack of jobs.

sure--so tell me what utopia doesnt have those problems. watch out for the stampede

I'm not saying that they don't, just pointing out that life is in this country for most is harder in the current climate.

My wife has visited the UK on a couple of occasions and did not enjoy being there as she thought most of the people she met moaned about everything.

There are also a couple of ladies on this forum that only moved to the UK to be with their partners and not to get away from their life in the Philippines.

    ok--so thats 3.

    out of---?

my g'f spent several years here on a student visa--and loves this country. she would still be here now if she could have stayed. i'm doing what i can my end to make her dream come true. only time will tell.

i dont blame this country for our situation---i just blame myself for falling for someone --without stopping to check out the rules of engagement first.

I do not know the answer to how many would rather live in the UK or the Philippines Maybe you can ask Keith and Rayna to start a poll? You may be surprised by the results!

Bigmac, I think you carry a broad brush and like to generalise. You ask my wife where she want's to be... she will tell you outright, she wants to be with me. She has never once told me she needs to or wants to come to the UK, she tells me she we can survive anywhere. The reason so many immigrants come to the UK is because we have become the joke of the world, bending to this policy and agreeing to opening our pockets to all who need /don't need hand outs. You may now be in your retirement and well off but not everyone is in your situation and life is harder now than it has ever been. There was no way I could bring my wife here and afford a house and bills, so sometimes you have to make other arrangements, and my wife is more than happy and is not disappointed that she has not made it to the UK.

As a family I can honestly say that we have never been happier since the day we left the UK.
To go back now would be a backward step..
The UK is not the same place as it was where I grew up.
    Now...Thats sad.

    Yep we are..

But like Jake said, I moved here just to be with Keith..When I was in the Philippines, I was living a comfortable life. I had a job, I can say a salary 2x or probably 3x the average wage, I can buy whatever I want or go to places, and I can help my parents with the bills. I knew that if ever I lost my job then, I can easily get a new one. But now that I'm here in the UK, I'm always wondering if ever I'd be able to get a job while in the UK. I even applied for voluntary jobs and still currently waiting for any response. I'd probably have a job now if we live in London though, but it's not that easy moving places here in the UK. You need a lot of money to do that.

But I chose to be with Keith and he can't live in the Philippines. So I moved here. The good thing is Keith and his family are keeping me comfortable and happy here. But other than that, I'd still choose to be in the Philippines. It's just not the same for me. This country might be a greener pasture for some, but definitely not for me.

Why did you use the word 'duress'? Sounds like they were forced into going to the UK!

Me too Jake, preferably where the sun warms you from the morning to the evening every day and where a nice cool san migel slides refreshingly down your throat.
