    3. Dell S2740L 27in

Highly rated by reviewers such as PC Magazine, this slim, slick and downright classy-looking display features edge-to-edge glass and has a super-sharp screen. Compared with other high-spec computer equipment, it's also highly energy-efficient.

    £309.99, dell.com

    4. Dell UltraSharp U2913WM 29in

This widescreen monitor is ideal for professionals who would usually make use of a dual-screen set-up. It has multiple ports, ranging from USB to HDMI, for extensive connectivity.

    6. Philips 298P4 29in

Another highly rated monitor, this is a stylish and high-spec widescreen display. It provides plenty of space for those who like to keep all their windows open at once and the image quality is impeccable, but you might need to buy a bigger desk to go with it.

    £415, philips.co.uk

    7. NEC MultiSync EA244WMi 24in

Super-thin, sharp and stylish, this is a very high-quality display that gives a consistent performance across a wide range of features, including a four-port USB hub. It's a recent addition to NEC's range of business monitors and boasts excellent power-saving functions.

    8. Samsung S22B350H 22in

A crisp-looking monitor for home entertainment that boasts sharp, deep on-screen colours and is wide enough to satisfy a range of uses. It features Samsung's adjustable "Magic" stand and should keep up with casual multimedia use. At 22in it is an excellent value HD-ready screen.

    £139.95, johnlewis.com

    9. Samsung S27B970D 27in

If you're in the market for a top-end, professional-quality display, this impeccable monitor should tick every box. The high resolution aims to enhance the experience of those whose work involves super-fine editing and the tempered-glass screen presents images so clearly it's almost like looking through a window.

    £839.99, overclockers.co.uk

    10. ViewSonic VX2460H-LED 24in

This is a super-thin, great-looking LED display that could be sold at a much higher price. It provides image quality that could be used for home or the office and the handy double HDMI ports mean you can keep a PC and games console plugged in at the same time.

It surprised me to see the vast price range.

I just don't have the space for a really good desktop PC and monitor. Wish I did.

    Thanks Peter.

I think I'll wait til this one expires....as per normal.

Also I have the PC connected to my 42" TV and can sit on the sofa with my wireless keyboard and mouse when I need a change of scenery.

    I'm the same Les.

I can't even use that funny pad thing they have.

Of course my son got a lovely new Toshiba laptop for his birthday, but he knows his dad will never be asking to borrow it.
