    Faulty Internet Connection

Can someone - ANYONE - advise me on the possible cause(s) of intermittent breaks in transmission? Those then seem to rectify themselves within a few minutes (so far, anyway ... touch wood!) but affect BOTH my desktop and my wife's laptop simultaneously ... since we share the same power source; our internet provider's 'Talktalk'.

Damned annoying to be interrupted when one's in the middle of something that turns out to be really important.

Oh ... and does anyone know how to get rid of horrendously, noisy sound interference on attached speakers??

... maybe a "blessing in disguise" for the next-door neighbours, though!

Whenever I have internet connection problems, the first thing I do is switch the modem/hub/router off at the fall for a few minutes - this has solved a few connection issues for me in the past.

Have you subbed out your phone line to Talk Talk Arthur ? I believe in keeping that with BT - when there are faults that need sorting out with at leaset you are dealing direct with BT rather than some reseller only interested in your monthly direct debit

Are you using ADSL? Is your phone line underground or overground? Do you have any crackling or static on your landline at times?

    I had the same problem.

I changed the phone wall socket for a new one and it solved the problem. Also got faster internet speeds.

Funnily enough, I had an 'outage' late last night on my Virgin Media cable internet.

I did the usual modem re-set, but still ended up going early to bed.

Happens very occasionally. Probably the provider messing about updating stuff, or whatever.

I like listening to youtube music too, and I have a big hi-fi connected up to the PC. Always turned on, but I can just mute it at the keyboard.

I heard the breaks in transmission is to do with the number of people using the internet at the same time in your 'hood.

Whether that's true or not, I don't know, but what I do know is that my internet was fine up until several months ago when a whole bunch of uni students moved into a new building further down the road.
