Discus you'd need to take it down to about 6-6.5 softness, and slightly acid (plus of course, the frequent water changes). This would go for many of the South American 'Amazon' species if you wanted breeding success.
Used to keep and breed Discus a few years ago, used to have a RO unit and then filter through peat to get the ph down.
