23 May 2013

Today (23 May), the Home Office published immigration statistics for the period January - March 2013. These provide the latest figures on those subject to immigration control, for the period up to the end of March 2013.

The statistics demonstrate that immigration abuse is being tackled, while we continue to encourage the brightest and best migrants, who contribute to our economic growth. There has been a 5 per cent increase in the number of sponsored student visa applications for our world-class universities, and a 5 per cent increase in the number of visas issued to skilled workers. Full details can be found on the GOV.UK website.

Net migration statistics also published today by the Office for National Statistics show that net migration has reduced by more than a 3rd since June 2010. Net migration is now at its lowest level for a decade, falling from 242,000 in the year to September 2011 to 153,000 in the year to September 2012. This report can be found on the Office of National Statistics website.
